Primary Collaboration Groups allow you to assign a Microsoft 365 Group to a specific attribute within your organization. This feature ensures that email distribution lists, Teams channels, and SharePoint access remain automatically updated and aligned with your Microsoft Entra ID structure.

Instead of manually managing outdated distribution lists or access permissions, users can simply send an email, collaborate in Teams, or access shared files by referencing the attribute-based Microsoft 365 Group.

To save time, take advantage of the Bulk Feature. You can find it under Attributes > Actions > Bulk M365 Group Creator, allowing you to generate and assign the M365 Groups towards attributes in 1 click. 🚀

How It Works

With Primary Collaboration Groups, you can:

  • Assign a Microsoft 365 Group to each attribute (such as Department, Location, or Job Title).

  • Automatically update memberships based on real-time attribute data from Microsoft Entra ID.

  • Ensure that email distribution lists, Teams spaces, and SharePoint access are always accurate and up to date.

For example, instead of manually maintaining a Sales department email list, you can link the Sales Department attribute to a Microsoft 365 Group. Now, users can simply email "Department Sales", and all members will automatically receive the message, no manual updates required.

Why Use Primary Collaboration Groups?

  • No More Outdated Email Lists Users don’t need to think about who is in what group—just send an email to the department or team name.

  • Automatic Membership Management The system automatically keeps group memberships updated as people join, leave, or change roles.

  • Seamless Microsoft 365 Integration Works directly with Microsoft Entra ID to manage Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook access effortlessly.

Conclusion

Primary Collaboration Groups make it easy to manage Microsoft 365 Groups dynamically. By linking groups to attributes, organizations can:

✅ Improve communication by ensuring users always have the correct distribution lists. ✅ Reduce IT workload by eliminating manual updates to email lists and group memberships. ✅ Enhance collaboration with Teams and SharePoint spaces that stay in sync with your attribute-based structure.

With this feature, users can focus on work instead of managing access, making collaboration easy and efficient.
